The Way of The Scramble — created by Chicago improv master Joe Bill (Annoyance Theater, Bassprov, iO Chicago), The Scramble stirs up chaos with multiple scenes and multiple realities taking place all at once. It allows patterns, parallels, and order to phase in and out of existence rhythmically, then trusts the intelligence of the audience to make sense of it.
Welcome to The Process Lab — when you're looking to get better and do more, this workshop is for you.
Prerequisite: Completion of all 4 levels at NCT or equivalent from another theater.
- Launching scenes with solo starts
- Working swinging gates to move between realities
- Building and layering stacked scenes
- Finding the patterns, parallels, and order inside the chaos
While The Scramble uses advanced techniques, what it really does is empower you to eat your fear, trust your impulses, and be ruthlessly playful in your commitment to yourself, your fellow players, and the show.
Great for improvisers ready to let go of control, take big swings, and trust an audience to follow them anywhere.
Get on your feet. Hone your craft. Welcome to the Lab.
Each month, you'll train with a rotating roster of experienced instructors from the Neighborhood Comedy Theatre, each bringing a fresh perspective and focus. This month, Jose Gonzalez leads a deep dive into The Scramble. Whether it's character work, scene dynamics, structure, or emotional truth—this is your space to stretch, stumble, succeed, and keep showing up. This class culminates with a performance slot at Indie night.
