Ever notice how the first 30 seconds of a scene basically decide whether it flies or dies?
This workshop is all about starts. Not game, not edits, not callbacks — just the messy, electric moment where two people step out and build something from nothing.
We'll slow way down and live in the first beat of a scene. How do you establish a relationship that matters? How do you make a specific choice when your brain is screaming "say anything"? We'll run scenes, stop them early, rewind, try again, and dig into what's actually happening in those opening moments.
Good for anyone doing long form who wants their scene work to feel less like a coin flip!
Paul Ronjak discovered improv in 2018 and never looked back. Since then he has trained at The KC Improv Company, The Annoyance Theatre, The iO Theater, and RISE Comedy. He has performed at festivals like Red Rocks Improv Festival and RISE Comedy Fest, blending a background in short-form games with grounded, character-driven long-form scene work.
As a teacher and coach, Paul believes the best improv happens at the intersection of fun, discovery, and self-care. They encourage students to trust their instincts, follow what delights them, and create scenes that are honest. Whether coaching seasoned players or introducing newcomers to the stage, he is passionate about fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where improvisers can take risks and grow.

Financial AssistanceWe understand that financial circumstances can sometimes make participation challenging. Please know that your presence, voice and contributions are valued here, and we are committed to making our programs as accessible as possible.
We have a few ways to help folks experience our classes. First off, all of our volunteers can take up to one full level class every term. Our volunteers learn positions at the theater and agree to a regular schedule at either our box office, tech booth, or our HM position which helps get the shows started on time. If you have a skill or trade or item that could be of benefit the theater, we're open to talking to you about it. We also offer payment plans for more flexibility, look into them at check out.
If those options aren't helpful, we offer an inclusion scholarship that will help Rise best reflect Denver. If you feel that you have a perspective and experience that Rise could benefit from we offer scholarships each term for our leveled classes. Apply below.
