Writing Sketch Comedy should be FUN!  What I hope to achieve in these workshops along with the basic  understanding of comedic timing and structure in comedy sketches is how simple sketch writing can be! Sketch Comedy is technically taking your funny ideas and turning them into real scenes to perform on stage. I think sketch comedy writing can be turning everything around you into something funny.

What you will take away from this workshop is the industry standard for writing sketches from some of the top sketch theaters in LA and also h ow to write sketches for you, We will try to cultivate and sharpen your comedic voice. We will operate as a working writers room and empower constructive criticism and how to collaborate on other peoples sketches. 

We will discuss shooting/making sketches for social media.  The idea is for you to be able to get the sketch down and produce it as simply as possible  because the best sketches are the ones we know about.

In this Sketch comedy workshop, We will write and rewrite, and I hope to instill a confidence that you can be happy with a sketch that you wrote or will write. This is a friendly, hands-on space for anyone who wants to learn, no experience needed, no polished ideas required. Just show up ready to try things and laugh.

Jamil Jackson is a force in sketch comedy, An Alum of the Sketch Writing Program from The Pack Theater, Jamil has also trained at UCB and has spent countless hours at various theaters around LA, He’s a Top rated performer and writer. A Visionary Showrunner who created Blackverse, a live sci-fi sketch show that fuses the black experience, American culture,  raw imagination, and current events. BLACKVERSE was considered “The future of sketch” and one of the best shows at the Pack Theater  during its run.  

Over several decades of industry experience, Jamil has performed everywhere from The Comedy Store on Sunset to the Second City Diversity Fest to the Leimart Park Festival to the Annual Compton Christmas Show, now new in town and around Minneapolis. Jamil brings jokes everywhere from anime, to arcade aesthetics, he can turn  real-life grit into sharp, unforgettable comedy. He’s led various writers’ rooms, one more recently at Team Inviz a company owned by Michael Bay which produced content for several prominent  social media influencers.
