Boost your long form skills using the precision and speed of short form games.
Short form isn’t just for beginners, despite what people think. This 4-week advanced improv class, students will learn how to incorporate these with intention. How to rethink short-form games as effective, focused tools that strengthen your long form skills. Similar to our core curriculum, this class will isolate key principles with target exercises. Quick, structured games will help students sharpen skills like listening, game recognition, character, commitment, staying present, and more.

Each week will focus on exploring one core concept through short form structure – providing clear context, while learning a new vocabulary and improv technique. By the end of these 4 weeks, students will be more versatile as performers with a newly expanded, diverse toolbox. Whether you’re new to short form or haven’t revisited it in a while, this class is a chance to build confidence, get specific, and grow as a performer—while still having fun.

Prerequisite: Completion of the Union Comedy core curriculum (all 4 levels) & current House Team performers -- or by emailing [email protected] for permission.

Instructor Bio: Ashley Voltz has been improvising for 12 years. She trained at ImprovBoston and worked there, as well as at Union Comedy as a teacher, director, performer, and facilitator. Her improv motto is that if you are having fun on stage, the audience will have fun watching you on stage. She loves any show where she gets to wear a costume or dance, and is terrible at writing about herself in third person. Her biggest dream is to one day be part of a heist crew.
