Remember Your Toes: Actor Awareness

This 6-week course will explore the basics of actor awareness. Students will learn how to use their instrument, vocally and physically. This class will teach beginners how to identify performance habits. And then create vocal and physical warm-ups in order to become a blank foundation for building characters. We will explore healthy vocal projection, character construction through specific physical choices,

and how to establish presence of mind when preparing for performance. In this course, students should be prepared for light movement, including stretching, meditation, vocal work. You will also be asked to think and share vulnerably about your physical and vocal habits. Please wear comfortable clothing for movement. Feel free to bring water, snacks (not too messy), and/or a notebook. We may also work with yoga mats.

Instructor Bio: Maggie Kearnan (she/her) is an award winning playwright, multi-hyphenate theater artist, and educator. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Boston University, and a BA in Theatre from Boston College. She has worked with students ages 8 to adult sharing her love and knowledge of performance and the theatrical process. She has a growing TikTok following for her account dedicated to tips and techniques for painting theatre sets with limited resources. Maggie has studied the performance techniques of Kristen Linklater, Patsy Rodenberg, Rudolf Laban, Sanford Meisner, and Michael Checkhov.
