BKBXEd’s flagship curriculum is called Physical Storytelling, which covers the basics of mime
technique and offers students tools to explore their own body languages and physical theater voice.

In a two-hour, in-person session, BKBX’s lead teaching artists will first introduce their unique style of modern mime, one based in naturalism and developed through collaborative process. We will get on our feet, consider the vast storytelling capacity of body language, and activate imaginative play. Participants will engage with games and devising structures designed to activate the body as a tool to illuminate environment, character, relationship, and temporal or spatial transformation. Games and exercises are designed and adaptable for implementation in classrooms or other educational settings, across a range of student ages and abilities.

Lead by BKBX company member Matt Zambrano, who has been a professional improvisor for over 25 years, and is the founding Artistic Director of The King Penny Improvised 1940's Radio Show.

BKBX (Broken Box Mime Theater) is an award-winning contemporary physical theater company that tells original stories beyond language barrier.  Set to rich lighting and a heart-thumping soundtrack, our narratives range from realistic to metaphorical, heart-wrenching to hilarious, and cinematic to intimate, held together by a dedication to the empowered imagination and the collective artistic voice of our diverse company.

Based in NYC and founded in 2011, BKBX is reimagining the medium for contemporary audiences, and redefining mime through the lens of US-American theater.

Financial Assistance

We understand that financial circumstances can sometimes make participation challenging. Please know that your presence, voice and contributions are valued here, and we are committed to making our programs as accessible as possible.

We have a few ways to help folks experience our classes. First off, all of our volunteers can take up to one full level class every term. Our volunteers learn positions at the theater and agree to a regular schedule at either our box office, tech booth, or our HM position which helps get the shows started on time. If you have a skill or trade or item that could be of benefit the theater, we're open to talking to you about it. We also offer payment plans for more flexibility, look into them at check out.

If those options aren't helpful, we offer an inclusion scholarship that will help Rise best reflect Denver. If you feel that you have a perspective and experience that Rise could benefit from we offer scholarships each term for our leveled classes. Apply below.
