IMPROV TO FILM - LOS ANGELES
Students in this multi-discipline class will use improv & writing techniques taught by Rich Talarico (Key & Peele, SNL, Second City) to hone and write sketch material that will be filmed and edited by director and editor Matthew Gossin (The Osbournes, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Travel Channel, MTV, VH1).
Students will learn story structure, character and scene development, screenplay formatting.
Class meets Sunday mornings on Zoom for the first several weeks and in the final weeks, will meet in person in Los Angeles to rehearse and film their material. Students will leave with copies of their final sketches which will be edited and delivered around Mid-November.

TEACHER/HEAD WRITER RICH TALARICO BIO
Rich is a Peabody® Award-winning writer/producer with four Emmy® and four WGA Award nominations, best known for his work on Comedy Central’s Key & Peele. He wrote Substitute Tea which in 2024, was added to The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum Of American History. Rich also wrote Racist Zombies, Karim and Jahar, Hatz, Teaching Center, Obama Greets, B more. Other TV credits include: MADtv, The Tonight Show w. Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live, HBO’s The Sketch Pad, and Comedy Central’s critically-acclaimed Review. An alum of Chicago’s Improv Olympic, he’s also provided punch-up work on the films Mean Girls and Get Out. Rich’s latest screenplay The Widow Daredevil was an Official Selection of the 2020 Beverly Hills Film Festival. Rich took his first improv class from Stephen Colbert at Chicago’s The Second City in 1992. He went on to tour with Second City's National Touring Company and later co-created five original with Second City's Etc., and Main Stage Companies. As an actor, Rich has appeared on screen on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, MADtv, the feature film High Fidelity, and in A&W Root Beer’ Dumass. Talarico’s extensive experience in the comedy industry has made him a sought-after teacher, writer, coach and consultant. Currently, Rich is performing stand-up comedy around the US. He recently headlined the Uptown Theater, Utica NY, The Waco Civic, Waco TX, Oops All Headliners show in Austin, TX, headl Brewery in Austell, GA and performed featured sets at Nashville’s famed Bowery Vault and Scruffy City Hall in Knoxville, TN. This fall Rich performed at Dick’s Last Resort in Panama City Be recently opened for Kevin Nealon, Ian Bagg and David Koechner at Kellar’s Magic and Comedy Bar, Erie, PA.

Matthew Gossin is a fifth generation, native Californian born in Santa Monica. His Great, Great Grandfather, J, J. Lewis was the mayor of Venice when it was it's own city. After spending the bulk of his adolescence in San Diego and attending a Performing Arts High School there, he attended USC Film School, graduating in 1993 with a degree in Cinema Production and a minor in French. While at USC, he participated in two semesters abroad - one in Paris and the other in Madrid, where he met his future wife. He has worked as a freelance editor since 1995. He speaks French and Spanish proficiently and dabbles with diminishing ability in Italian, Catalan, Welsh, Armenian, & Japanese among others. He has worked on many reality shows including the Osbournes (show won an Emmy®), Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica and First Season of Big Brother. Nominated for a Cable Ace Award in 1996 for his work on the MTV Movie Awards, Matthew has directed for the Travel Channel and Discovery Home & Leisure Channel. A founding member of the OddSquad comedy troop, he was both a producer and editor on "Fell, Jumped, or Pushed" the group's first feature-length comedy. The film gained entry into several smaller festivals around the world - winning some awards. There is another project in development coming soon. His current stint as Editor / Associate Director on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has just come to an end after almost 10 years. Matthew lives in Van Nuys, California with his wife and two sons.
