Collider is a two-day writing and performance intensive focused on creating original comedic characters for the stage. Students learn a repeatable process for transforming everyday people, behaviors, and ideas into fully realized characters with distinct points of view. Students explore multiple approaches to character creation while learning to identify comedic games, strengthen character choices, and bring their work to life through performance.

Throughout the weekend, students will generate multiple original character concepts before selecting one to refine into a polished 3-5 minute solo performance for a live-directed class show. Students should expect to do some writing and character development outside of class.

Ideal for actors, improvisers, writers, stand-up comedians, sketch performers, drag artists, clowns, and anyone looking for a reliable process for creating original character work.

Please note that this workshop takes place over two consecutive days. Partial enrollment will not be permitted, in order to provide the best class experience for everyone.

Class 1: Saturday, October 24: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Class 2: Sunday, October 25: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Class Show: Monday, October 26 at 7:30 PM

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Mandy Keen is an actor, comedian, writer, and solo performer based in Tampa, Florida. She trained in Improv and Character Writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB) in Los Angeles, where she developed her approach to creating original comedic characters. Her original solo show, MAGGIE, premiered in Tampa before making its Los Angeles debut at the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival, earning praise for its originality, fearless physical comedy, and immersive audience interaction. Mandy continues to perform original work while developing new classes that combine character writing, improvisation, and physical performance.

AGE REQUIREMENT

Unless otherwise stated, all improv classes at The Commodore are for adults 18 and up. Please be on the lookout for youth offerings in 2026!

HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE IN THE CLASS?
Our class minimum is 8 students, and our maximum for this class is 12. At 48 hours from the start date, if we have fewer than 8 students enrolled, we'll be in touch with those who have enrolled to discuss options. We hope this doesn't happen!

I'M NERVOUS TO PERFORM! IS THE CLASS SHOW OPTIONAL?
It is not! The class show is part of the class experience. It's totally normal to be nervous, but trust us when we say, there are few things more fun and rewarding than being up there on stage, performing for people that love and care about you. You're gonna do great!
