Sunday: 12:30p; 1:15p; 2p; 3:30p; 4:15p

***There is a lot of information here. Please make sure to read all of the info below before your audition.***

What will auditions be like?

  • Each audition block will have up to 8 people and last 30-minutes. Each person will perform a 2-person scene, followed by a self-edited series of scenes as a whole group.
  • You may only attend ONE audition block.
  • If invited, callbacks will take place on Monday evening September 8, 2025.
  • Our casting board consists of select Union Comedy teachers, coaches, and performers. This board makes all casting decisions collectively.
  • We use a standardized audition scoring system intended to prioritize specific improv skills and limit auditor subjectivity and bias.

What are performer expectations?

  • A 6-month commitment. Union Comedy casts new performers and/or house teams every 6-months through auditions. Performers and/or House Teams are not guaranteed to be renewed at the end of each season.
  • Weekly rehearsals with a dedicated coach. Teams are provided a coach and rehearsal space for free. Rehearsals will either be at our theater or training center in Central Square.
  • Regularly scheduled performances. All of our House Teams perform different long form structures that they work on in rehearsals. Shows are live streamed and recordings are kept on the Union Comedy YouTube channel. Shows are scheduled on a rotating basis with all house teams and are subject to change.
  • Regular attendance. Performers are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of their scheduled rehearsals and shows, excluding reasonable exceptions for unexpected circumstances such illness, family emergencies, or other personal reasons.
  • Consistent high quality improv. The theater, along with your coach, tracks performers and teams on commitment (to rehearsal and show attendance), quality (shows are funny & fun), and consistency (meeting and/or exceeding performer expectations).
  • Adherence to Union Comedy's Code of Conduct. Performers are expected to maintain a professional and respectful relationship with their teammates, coaches, theater staff, and others in the community. The full Code of Conduct can be found HERE.

What is the casting board looking for?

  • Audition scores: We will be looking for clear proficiency in basic improv skills (yes and-ing, base reality, listening, etc.) as well as more advanced longform skills (distinct characters, clear worldviews, pattern recognition, heightening, etc).
  • Are you funny? Audiences come to Union Comedy to laugh. If a performer is fun to watch at their audition -- while being a supportive and respectful team player -- there's a good chance their shows will be too.
  • Relationship to theater -- we strongly encourage coming to see our house teams prior to auditioning. Auditions should not be the first time you've been to Union Comedy. We expect you to have a sense of what kinds of shows our house teams do so you know what we may be looking for from cast members and so you know what you’d be signing up for. Plus, it will be helpful for you to see the layout of the theater before your audition (it's a little guy!).
  • If you'd like to know what it's like to be ON our stage before auditions, come to a Jam on Sundays at 5pm!

Can I get feedback on my audition?

  • The casting board does NOT provide individual feedback, share audition scores, or discuss casting decisions. We typically see 100+ performers over the course of the weekend and there are many factors involved that make casting a complex process. We ask that you keep this in mind after audition decisions have been sent out and that you do not contact individual members of the casting board regarding your audition.
  • If you are interested in specific feedback, we recommend taking a class or workshop.

I can't make it this round-when's the next audition?!

  • Auditions happen twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. Keep an eye out on our instagram and/or newsletter for those announcements!

**Any and all communication regarding auditions should be directed to [email protected]***
