Learn how to create unique, fun, and cohesive alternative stand up acts. Featuring instruction and coaching from Portland comics experienced in clowning, storytelling, presentations, characters, and more.
Students who purchase the 7 WORKSHOP SERIES save 5.00 per class when registering by June 21st! Students who attend multiple classes (including August 9th) are also invited to perform in the Stand Up Student Showcase to be held in the Curious Comedy Main Theater on Wednesday, August 19th.

- Kelly Thomas is a Portland based comedian, improviser, and comic creator who often uses Characters and alternative comedy to play on stage.
- July 26 — Storytelling, Ash Allen
- August 2 — Presentations, Riley McCarthy
- Riley McCarthy (they/them) is a stand up comic and writer from the great state of Wisconsin. They have been voted one of Willamette Weeks Funniest 5 comics in Portland, have taken second place in Helium Comedy Clubs Portland’s Funniest Person Contest, and been named one of Portland Mercury’s Undisputed Geniuses Of Comedy.
Riley is the cohost of Hell Bound To Clown and Portland’s Only, and is a cast member on Magic Tea Party- the PNW’s longest running d&d comedy show. Their comedic essays can be read in The Portland Mercury and they have performed at clubs and festivals across the country.
- August 9 — Showcase Prep
- This class is required to participate in the showcase. Attending other classes in addition are required to attend on August 9th.
Joe John Sanchez III
- Joe John Sanchez III is a lifelong silly goose who began their standup comedy journey in 2019. They have since appeared on Willamette Week's Funniest Five and the Portland Mercury's Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy, along with producing several local showcases committed to uplifting local queer talent. Across the country, they have performed at SF Sketchfest, the LGBTLOL Comedy Fest, and were selected for Best of Fest at the 2023 Burbank Comedy Festival. They are a champion of new, emerging voices within the Portland comedy scene and firmly believe that everyone has a story worth telling.
