You've completed the Core Curriculum of Faraway's Performance Path, and now it's time to move on to more challenging improv forms and concepts. This Advanced Study class will focus on making and committing to bold character choices and dive deep on the WHO of the scene.
WHO is this person? What do they care about and why? What life events have shaped their personality and how does that manifest in their bodies? How deep is their world view and how do they embody that through the choices they make in the present? Why do they react the way they do?
The WHO also involves the character's physical traits. Facial expressions, voice, walk, slang, quirks, general mannerisms. We will learn to embody these things to discover and create fun, compelling, and REAL characters- not just caricatures.
We will learn to pull character inspiration from our own lives as well as spontaneous inspirations from the stage. We will learn to establish strong points of view and act with fresh convictions as fully actualized people who can show up and infuse vitality and hilarity into each and every Moment.
Your performance form 'The Moment' is an original format developed at Faraway taking inspiration from the forms the sleepover and the montage.
Disclaimer: This class will be more immersive and demanding than other classes in our performance track. Beyond their characters, the Improvisers themselves give meaning to the moment by showing up as fully fleshed out, lived in, and dynamic beings. This class will require students to complete various 'homework' assignments outside of class. These assignments are designed to get students out of their comfort zones in life so that they organically bring new life to their work on stage. The instructor strongly encourages you to fully commit to bringing an open positive mindset to class, completing all outside of class assignments, and not having any schedule conflicts for the class term.
In order to sign up for this class, you must have completed 501.
