5 Backline Alumni have been working for 8 weeks to develop their own improv workshops, and we think everyone will find at least one workshop that is a great match for them, but you can take all 5 for less than 1 regular workshop! Each workshop will be 1 hour long and split between 2 Sundays in November, and each workshop is only $5!

REINVENT YOURSELF: PLAYING CHARACTERS AGAINST YOUR TYPE (Some Improv Experience Required)
TIM SUECK
For most improvisors, the first character they play is a version of themselves. They can find themselves stuck in a rut, playing those same characters in every scene. This workshop will help improvisors of all levels use their voice, physicality, intelligence, and emotional perspectives to break out of their shells and create new and exciting characters.
3:15PM
PLAYING TOGETHER: FOSTERING CONNECTIONS W/ SCENE PARTNERS (Some Improv Experience Required)
TORI SMITH
Improv is a vulnerable art form, but it is less scary when you trust the people you are playing with. A strong connection with your scene partners can make all the difference in creating a cohesive, entertaining performance. This workshop will give you tools to break the ice when performing with improvisors you may not know, and/or give you exercises to further bond with your current improv team.
4:30PM
FROM THE HEART: LET YOUR FEELINGS GUIDE THE WAY (No Experience Required)
CHANDRA PETERSEN
Feel It: Connect with genuine emotions rather than searching for a reaction.
Own It: Trust the emotion, embrace vulnerability, and stop censoring yourself.
Show It: Allow authentic emotion to come through your voice, body language and facial expressions.
As a mental health counselor for over 20 years I've supported people to create their best life while being their authentic self. Come to this workshop ready to let your best strength shine through-Being Genuinely You!!!

HONEST CHOICES: YOUR CHARACTER'S INNER VOICE (Some Improv Experience Required)
LEXIE FOSTER
In our everyday life, each of us has an inner voice that guides the choices we make and the actions we take. On stage, your character’s inner voice is still there, and the decision is up to you to find it, listen to it, and act upon it. Following your character’s inner voice leads to more honest choices on stage, therefore building more genuine scenes for an audience. In this workshop, improvisers will practice leaning into their character’s point of view and discovering how this influences the actions their characters make, leading to a more authentic world on stage.
3:15PM
SING YOUR HEART OUT: FUELING SONGS W/ EMOTIONS (Some Musical Experience Required)
LILY WANG
Musical improv often feels intimidating, as there may be pressure to juggle breathing, melody, rhythm, rhyming, and physical movement, all while moving scenes forward with your improvised songs. This workshop will focus on letting go of those concerns and just concentrating on channeling feelings and emotion in your musical scenes. We'll practice singing with a range of different emotions and then tie it together with improvised stories. Attendees will leave feeling more skilled at connecting with audiences with emotion fueling their songs.
These workshops will take place at The Backline. Please arrive early so the workshop can start on time.
No refunds. Most classes are held at Backline, some upstairs on the 2nd floor of the Keeline Building. Contact Dylan Rohde at
