Why Take Classes With Us?
Our studio is founded on the belief that student progress only comes from providing clear instruction and feedback. We not only want our students to learn the core skills of improvisation, but we also want them to improve their skills over their time with us. Because of that, we offer learning opportunities that students won't find anywhere else.
All of our students will receive the following:
A safe, nurturing, and supportive environment
10 students max per class, so each gets lots of attention
We offer flexible class options so students can purchase the number of classes that suits their schedule
Coaching and check-ins during & after each game to help make sure you've understood the breakthroughs
Blackboard discussions during class, when necessary, to help visual and analytical learners
Closing every class with students recognising their own wins
Receiving highly personalised notes via email from your teacher, celebrating your wins during the class series & recommending skills to work on when you come back for another class with us.
Participating - for those who wish! - in our student showcases
Receiving and reviewing vids & pics from our showcase as keepsakes and learning tools
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS: David Koff & Jon Bolden
david&jon.png805 KB David is the founder of Change Through Play and has been improvising for over 30 years. He learned improv originally at The Groundlings in LA, then with Stan Wells at his Empty Stage Theater, at ACME comedy theater, and Second City LA. He continues to study improvisation in Bill Steinkellner's master class. He's been a member of SAG/AFTRA since 1993 and works as a professional actor in movies, TV shows, and national commercials. No, seriously: go look at his reel! As an improviser and sketch actor, David's worked with and directed some of his comedy heroes including Jon Larroquette, Ray Romano, Lon Lovitz, The Kids in the Hall, Mindy Sterling, Lynne Stewart, and many more.
Jon Bolden began teaching improv in the early 2010s in Austin, TX at The Hideout Theatre and co-produced The Out-of-Bounds Comedy Festival. He has since traveled to London, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, among others to teach and direct niche forms of improvised theater and comedy. He currently teaches at Kickstand Comedy here in Portland, OR. His favorite classes will always be working with newcomers and watching them gain confidence, awareness, and the power of being present. He strives to make everyone feel comfortable, safe, seen & heard.
